Let's try this again:)

Ok, so I never said I would be good at keeping up with this.....I do think about writing in it all the time. Does that count?
I'm not even going to attempt to catch you up on all that's gone on since the last time I wrote. However, I'm going to make it my NEW goal to keep you updated on what's happening in our crazy, blessed lives now.
To begin with, Isaac, oh Isaac.....he's been cracking me up and shocking me since the day he was put on this earth. Lately, I have been amazed, and by amazed I mean not really surprised but still in awe of just how much God made him to be JUST like his daddy. Not that that's a bad thing, but oh my goodness, Lord, I had no idea we'd have a Mini James King running around our house this early. Anyone reading this probably knows James.....so sweet, kind, giving, but sometimes completely RANDOM! I'm pretty sure this, too comes from the King side of the family;) Well, Isaac has definitely picked up on the trait of randomness and lately it has made me giggle more than a few times. Here are some examples:
We were at GG and G-mac's house the other day watching bull riding (pretty much Isaac and G-Mac's favorite thing to do) and, randomly, Isaac looks at G-Mac and says "You know G-Mac, you're a pretty good worker at that sale barn." Then starts watching TV again. Dad just kind of looked at me and smiled and kept watching. So sweet, but RANDOM!
You have to remember, this is a 4 year old we're talking about here.....here's more....
Isaac was in the car with GG going to Sonic (pretty much GG and Isaac's favorite thing to do:)). Mom said it was quiet in the car and, out of nowhere, Isaac says, "Well GG, you haven't told me how your summer was going." Mom said she was a little shocked at first, but then just told him how her summer was. He's so BIG!
When he got home that day, after he'd been home for about 15 minutes, he looked at me and said, "Well, mom, you didn't tell me how Kenzie was this morning." He is such a sweet boy. How many times have I heard those EXACT words come out of James' mouth. Always, "Well, ..........." . Isaac is getting so big so fast. I'm trying to remind myself that all the housework and business of the days can wait until he's in Kindergarten....one more year:( I'm already getting anxious about it. I cried at pre-school graduation this year and he wasn't even graduating. Boy, am I in trouble! Thank you, Lord, for giving me a little glimpse of just how much you love your children. I know my love for my children could never compare to that, but I am blessed beyond measure to be able to wake up everyday and experience love the way you intended it to be on this earth. Thank You.

Things I can't forget but won't remember....

Isaac is always saying things, especially here lately, that I think, "I've GOT to remember that!", but, of course, me being me, I don't because I don't go write them down immediately and since I have the memory of a goldfish, most of the hilarious, smart, wise things he says get a laugh, but that's about it. So, all that to say, I'M WRITING THEM DOWN.....NOW!

...us driving somewhere.....Isaac: "ewww, mom, what's that smell? A stunk?" He calls a skunk a stunk. Makes perfect sense to me!

...we were taking a walk in the neigborhood and he finds a shoelace on the side of the road..."Mom, look, a shoe tie!" He should have been around when our language was invented!

Isaac told me in the car today that I was a crazy burrito. I asked him what that was and he said "I don't know, but be glad you're not a crazy taco cause they're really crazy!"

Isaac had his first t-ball game last night. At lunch Uncle Pooh was over and we asked him what position he was going to play. This was his response:
"Stop sign!, Noooo...Stoplight! Ahhhhh, what is it?" Me: "Shortstop?" Isaac: "Yeah, shortstop!"....he played catcher!

Isaac and I were looking at one of his MANY animal books today and he was trying to name all the animals. I pointed at the picture of the chinchilla and he got really excited and said "That's a chinchilada!" Close, Bub....maybe next time:) Gotta love him!

Well, once again, I've procrastinated and now I have way too much to blog about! The stories of the last few months will mostly be told in pictures because I'm just too darn lazy to type up the details:) Sorry folks!

Christmas 2009

This year's Christmas was the BEST...so far...(I think I say that every year!) Getting to watch the anticipation build for Santa with Isaac was so much fun! I think one of my very favorite things about being a mom is getting to be a kid again! We really did have a wonderful Christmas.

We started 2 new traditions this year that I am hoping will stick. The first one was making a gingerbread house. Isaac and I had so much fun and it actually turned out pretty darn cute! Isaac had a really hard time getting the icing from the knife to the gingerbread house (it was very tasty:)) but we managed to get enough on it to make the candy stick, which also, by the way, was quite a temptation for a four year old with a sweet tooth. When it was finished Isaac couldn't wait to show his dinosaurs.....they had a sweet tooth too!

The other tradition that we started was lighting a candle in our Nativity scene, singing 'Happy Birthday' to Jesus, and then reading the Christmas story. One of my favorite memories of Christmases past is the live Nativity scene we did at my Granny's house every year. All 16 cousins and occasionally an aunt or uncle would dress up in homemade costumes and we would stand in Granny's front yard inside a stable my Grandaddy made and sing Christmas carols as Granny read the Christmas story. The scene was complete with donkeys, calves, and whatever other animals happened to be in the area. :) The whole town of Baird would join us singing and one year we were even featured on the Abilene news! Now that we are all older and the great grandkids aren't quite old enough, Granny makes sure that we at least read the Christmas story and sing the carols before any gifts are opened. She has started such a wonderful tradition and is one of the reasons that her children and grandchildren put Christ first at Christmas time and everyday. Love you, Granny!

Besides reading the Christmas story at Granny's house, the last few years on Christmas Eve we've read The Crippled Lamb (Max Lucado) to Isaac and talked about Jesus being born but this was the first year we actually read the whole Christmas story to him at home. He seemed to enjoy it; especially the part where he got to blow out the candle:) I hope and pray that James and I can truly show Isaac and Kenzie what Christmas is about. Lord, help us to not just tell them about you, but let our lives be lived in such a way that they can follow us as we lead them straight to you.

Oh, I almost forgot...The BEST gift we got this year was a trip to Great Wolf Lodge from Mom and Dad....it was actually the best gift I think we've ever gotten!! We had such an awesome time and are already planning another trip there. Pictures to come later:)

Talkin' to Santa...

This is really the first year that Isaac has been very inquisitive about Santa. He's asked where he lives, how he gets to ALL those houses, how he knows who's been naughty or nice, what his reindeer eat, if Santa likes to eat at La Fiesta (what in the world?!?), and if I really think Santa will bring him the skateboard he's been asking for for 2 years now. We've tried to answer all his questions the best we could, but this year Santa came to Isaac's pre school so Isaac asked him himself....really, I think he asked him every one of those questions and maybe even more! He sat on Santa's lap so long I had to make him get off! The entire time he was sitting there, though, he and Santa were conversing back and forth like they'd known each other for years! So funny! Kenzie, on the other hand, did not think so much of ol' St. Nick;)

Isaac: Mom, I tee-teed in my pants.

Me: Isaac, you are 4 years old. What in the world are you still doing tee-teeing in your pants?

Isaac: Mom, if you didn't know, I am still just a little kid and sometimes things like this happen when you're a little kid.

Me: Oh, ok.

Happy Birthday Sugga-Booga!!

Our Little Kenzie is 1!! Not to sound familiar, but it REALLY does seem like yesterday that we brought her home. This first year has flown by. It's been so different having a baby girl. I wasn't sure I could be a 'girly' momma but, sister, you've made me one! It's SO MUCH FUN! I couldn't have imagined what a blessing it would be to have such a sweet girl. Sugar and spice, snails and puppy dog tails, now we have it all! We love you soooo much!!!

You have accomplished so much in your first year of life! Some of the things you've done this year are:

• crawl super fast (and almost walk:))
• say uh-oh, da-da, ma-ma, bubba, pretty, more (sign), please (sign), GG, bye-bye
• point at what you want
• hold up your finger to tell us how old you are
• point to your eyes, nose, ears, teeth
• sleep through the night (FYI: this took a LONG time:))
• You have 3 teeth and LOTS more coming in
• When you go to sleep, you have to have your paci and blankie (you rub your blankie on your nose until you fall asleep; so sweet!)
